For nearly three centuries Jaquet Droz has been writing its own story of excellence and mechanical virtuosity, constantly surpassing itself creatively. Born in the heart of the Swiss Jura mountains, the brand has always had its sights set on conquering the world. As the first watchmaking brand to gain entry to China’s Forbidden City, it did not stop there. Under the impetus of founder Pierre Jaquet-Droz, the company went on to astonish Enlightenment Society and Europe’s Royal Courts with exquisitely crafted pocket watches, urns, snuffboxes, birdcages and android automatons.
In the same spirit Jaquet Droz now plans three extraordinary exhibitions in the United States. Each runs for three weeks and will be open to a public who appreciates exceptional objects. These three events celebrate the Brand’s Automatons and Métiers d’Arts: enameling, engraving, painting and miniature sculpting. Perfectly mastered and maintained by a handful of craftsmen within the Atelier de Haute Horlogerie in La Chaux-de-Fonds, these expert crafts—some of them dating as far back as the Renaissance—are flourishing more than ever at Jaquet Droz. Witness the success of automaton timepieces—jewels in the watchmaking crown, displayed in all their glory. The Charming Bird, Bird Repeater and Lady 8 Flower allow us a glimpse of how Jaquet Droz’s poetic naturalism ties in with the incredible flights of creativity that give these miniature birds and flowers the lifelike appearance of living things. As a trailblazer of luxuriously splendid decoration, Jaquet Droz also offers customization on certain models, with the promise that the most refined devotees are guaranteed a one-of-a-kind piece worthy of the legendary Manufacture’s tradition of excellence. Such unique timepieces will be also on display during the exhibition. This continues to prove that staying true to your history and to the astonishing creativity of the human hand is the finest way of celebrating modernity.
These most outstanding Jaquet Droz creations can be admired from October 7th to October 24th at the Tourbillon Boutique in Houston, from: November 11th to November 28th at the Tourbillon Boutique in Costa Mesa and from December 9th to December 28th at the Tourbillon Boutique in Short Hills.
A warmed up stage, a drum kit, a few guitars and a harmonica: “It’s only rock’n’roll!” Today, Jaquet Droz unveils the first out of the 23 unique timepieces to retrace the world of the Rolling Stones through motion. Beside the arm of a record player that hovers over a platinum album replica (the power reserve), a scene depicts their signature instruments in miniature paintings and gold thread. The external disc rotates up to 8 consecutive times for 30 seconds and is adorned with the albums that the collector will choose for his unique timepiece. At 9 o'clock, the iconic tongue beats rhythmically, from left to right and from top to bottom. “And I like it!”
After three years of work, Jaquet Droz and John Howe have developed an Art Watch dedicated to emotion, wonder and fantasy. Draped in gold and rare stones, their dragon has a record 9 distinct animations. Inside a 43 mm case, the piece is entirely handmade and can be customized almost without limit by the client. Thanks to a Studio in the heart of the Jaquet Droz head quarter, clients will be offered an immersive phygital experience that will allow them to witness the live creation of their timepieces. There is no series to be announced, only unique pieces.
