It has been the turn of the Thai capital, Bangkok, to welcome the Jaquet Droz Basel Novelties with the presence of the Vice President and Head of International Sales, Mr. Aellen.
On June 28th the brand, its retailer Cortina Watch Thailand and Robb Report Thailand magazine, invited watch collectors and connoisseurs to assist on the event at the St. Regis Hotel.
For this special occasion, the guests had the opportunity to paint handmade candles during a unique workshop curated by the independent artist and sculptor Ekachai Phuaphanpanyophat graduated from the Faculty of Decorative Arts of Silpakorn University (Wang Tha Pra).
During the VIP seated dinner the guests discovered the main novelties of Baselworld 2018, such as Grande Seconde Skelet-One, first skeleton movement of the brand, Lady 8 Petite – an exquisite lady’s piece with the smallest movement, and Grande Seconde Moon, which cycle needs to be adjusted only once in 122 years.
The collectors were especially amazed by the Automata timepieces – Bird Repeater, Loving Butterfly Automaton – as well as by the possibility of customizing the watches and ordering unique pieces.
“Some watches tell time, some tell a story”
The Maison and the artist best known for his artistic direction of The Lord of the Rings showcase a creation that gives pride of place to a mythical creature, micro-painted in two very limited series.
This year, the Maison celebrates the birth of its watchmaking founder, exactly 300 years ago on July 28, 1721. For this occasion, the Grande Seconde Moon has been reimagined in two exclusive anniversary editions: one explores the traditions of the Maison and the other explores its modern inspirations.
When the Milan Museum of Culture (MUDEC) asked Jaquet Droz to join its show “Robot. The Human Project” the brand brought out Pierre Jaquet-Droz’s 250-year-old automatons.
