In honor of the 7th edition of the Only Watch, Jaquet Droz presents an exceptional Grande Seconde Off-Centered model that raises money for the fight against Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Time is generosity. It’s a credo that Jaquet Droz has always stood behind, joining forces with Only Watch, a biennial charity featuring unique watchmaking pieces sold to raise money for research in Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a serious affliction of the muscles and cardiac system. Convinced that treatment is within reach, the brand known by its twin stars proudly shows its commitment through a unique edition of the Grande Seconde Off-Centered.
This reinterpretation of the legendary Grande Seconde watch and its playful figure 8 - the symbol of infinity and completeness that has come to represent Jaquet Droz - features a cuprit background. Discovered in the mid 19th century, this copper-oxide-rich stone kindles celestial reverie of the planet Mars. Its fiery red color embodies all the passion dedicated to both the timepiece and the Only Watch project.
The cut of the mineral dial requires the extreme, expert delicacy for which Jaquet Droz is known. Each inclusion, vein and detail of the dial makes for a singular masterpiece. But the Grande Seconde goes even further: the two counters traditionally aligned on the 12 o’clock / 6 o’clock axis are made off-center, adding an original, dynamic touch to this purest of canvases. The thinness of the circled gold flanges match that of the hands and the majestic direct-drive seconds hand, while the crown is shifted to 4 o’clock for a subtle aesthetic twist.
A feast for the eyes, this Grande Seconde is equipped with an automatic mechanical movement whose balance-spring and pallet horns in silicon - a material resistant to shocks, temperature fluctuations, pressure and magnetic fields - add to the perfect reliability of the watch. Fitted with a power reserve of 68 hours, the Grande Seconde Off-Centered combines the purple of the cuprit with the glimmer of the 43 mm red gold case and the smooth black of the alligator strap. Hand engraved with the mentions “1/1” and “Only Watch 2017 Cuprite”, the Grande Seconde Off-Centered will be released at the end of September to coincide with the Monaco Yacht Show. It will then be a part of the traveling exhibition targeting an international public of committed watch lovers prior to going up for auction in Geneva on Saturday, November 11th.
“Some watches tell time, some tell a story”
A warmed up stage, a drum kit, a few guitars and a harmonica: “It’s only rock’n’roll!” Today, Jaquet Droz unveils the first out of the 23 unique timepieces to retrace the world of the Rolling Stones through motion. Beside the arm of a record player that hovers over a platinum album replica (the power reserve), a scene depicts their signature instruments in miniature paintings and gold thread. The external disc rotates up to 8 consecutive times for 30 seconds and is adorned with the albums that the collector will choose for his unique timepiece. At 9 o'clock, the iconic tongue beats rhythmically, from left to right and from top to bottom. “And I like it!”
After three years of work, Jaquet Droz and John Howe have developed an Art Watch dedicated to emotion, wonder and fantasy. Draped in gold and rare stones, their dragon has a record 9 distinct animations. Inside a 43 mm case, the piece is entirely handmade and can be customized almost without limit by the client. Thanks to a Studio in the heart of the Jaquet Droz head quarter, clients will be offered an immersive phygital experience that will allow them to witness the live creation of their timepieces. There is no series to be announced, only unique pieces.
The “Effinger” clock dated from 1783 and signed Jaquet-Droz, has been sold at CHF 256,000.-, which is more than three times the starting bid of CHF 70,000.-, during the Koller auction on March the 31st 2022.
